God of January 2nd
After the flimsy resolutions have
Gone stale and the paper
Confetti has blown away —
Give us your enduring presence.

God of sparklers and midnight
Fireworks and of the days when
Nothing shines at all —
Give us your radiance.

God of all the vows we make
Especially the ones that
Thud hollow —
Give us your steadfast promises.

God of the New Year
Of fresh starts and wild
Second chances —
Give us the grace to see
Your mercies were new this morning too.
